I have a 2009 Subaru Outback with PSEV on it and I have had the same engine error for four months. The catalytic converter isn’t functioning properly. I took it to my local shop for an inspection and obviously it failed.

They said that typically replacement would be $1800 for a normal converter but because of the PSEV, it’s probably $2800 plus potentially $300 because the oxygen sensors can be difficult.

Does that sound reasonable? Can I replace the PSEV with a normal converter or is that impossible? The guy also said he couldn’t find it in after-market so the part would have to come from a dealership.

Does anyone have experience with this? I’m in NC with the car purchased in CO.

I think I’m just going to wait on it. My mechanic reset the computer and I’ll try to come back and pass it on Monday. I’m not sure how long it’ll be until it becomes a serious problem with an exhaust leak though
