Hi all—new here. I work at an almost 30-year-old retail business in a university town. We have two brick and mortar stores and a fairly strong online business.

We have CCTV systems in both stores and had a bad year with shoplifting, as I’m sure many of you have as well. Until now, most thefts have been very small items or amounts, and until a few years ago, we had no CCTV and likely had no clue what thefts were occurring. This year we have had a few cases where the dollar amount of merchandise taken at once has prompted us to consider prosecuting, and we were hit so much we’re just plain tired of it.

I’m interested in hearing how you all approach working with local law enforcement or otherwise address shoplifting and use your CCTV footage to locate and pursue charges against thieves.

In the meantime we are addressing blind spots, floor layouts, and staff training to help prevent these occurrences. Any other tips and info are most welcome.

Thanks y’all!
