Switch charger connecting to laptop but not charging switch

My charger for my switch is connecting to my laptop but not actually charging the switch, it works on other devices with the same charger, how is it connecting my switch to my laptop without being able to charge the switch? it doesn’t work when plug into a normal outlet either
