I own a 2010 Chevy cobalt. About 2 weeks ago I noticed the battery light coming on and off again.

The patterns I’ve noticed so far are

  • When I’m in full gear the light comes on
  • Approaching or past 2000 rpm, it comes on
  • Happens when I’ve driven around 50km and over in the past 2 hours
  • When my foot is on the gas it comes on
  • As soon as I take my foot of the gas it turns off

I got 2 mechanics to look at it and 4 other people.

The first guess after looking at my battery ( which I only got last year ) was a missing nut to the right of my negative terminal (everyone else said that wasn’t the problem).

The second guess was my alternator needed replacing. 3 people said this. So I paid $400 dollars for the part and installation (ridiculous for a cobalt I’ve been told) and the problem is still persisting.

A few other guesses were corrosion on the terminals (there is none), the voltage regulator (just got a new alternator), and wiring/electrical problems (coming from a cobalt owner), and the belt ( both mechanics said it didn’t need replacing ).

So new battery, new alternator, no corrosion, it’s not the belt or the voltage regulator.

I can’t figure this out and no one around me either, I don’t want to have to spend more money at a mechanics until I know what’s wrong with it. Please help me figure this out I am losing my mind!
