Good morning,

Im looking to swap out the CPU’s I have running in my IBM iDataPlex dx360 M4 Servers, I’m currently running three of these systems with 2x E5-2670 V1, and I have been looking at other CPU options for these systems, as they support the E5-2600 V2 series. I want to lower the TDP a bit, as the current chips are running 115W TDP, but I would like some recommendations. I was looking at the E5-2660 V2 but they have a lower base clock, where i am worried this may impact performance? These systems are in a Proxmox Cluster, and are hosting a slew of services, from game servers, to pihole, to file hosting. Wondering if anyone that is using this platform has any input?

You’re going to lose out on performance running game servers on lower clocks. I’m running mine on 2690 v2s until I can find a good deal on something a bit newer and that’s about as low as I’d suggest going for clocks.

Do you need the game servers to be part of the cluster? You could dedicate one box to them, install some higher clocked CPUs for that workload then use something lower powered in the other two boxes for services that don’t need so much grunt.

Hmm, well I am running three individual servers, so I could do two lower TDP higher core count systems, for Linux based services, and then do a lower core count higher clock speed system for the game servers?
