Hello people of Reddit. Searched for similar posts throughout Reddit but didn’t manage to find a solution.

Configuration:

Biostar A320MH Motherboard (don’t judge me)

Ryzen 5 2600 CPU

RX 6650 XT (previously GTX 1650 SUPER)

16GB DDR4 RAM @ 2667MHz

Seasonic G12 GM-Series 750W (previously 600W)

Windows 11 64-bit OS

Background: I don’t officially live in a third-world country, however, the financial standards are very similar to one.

Wanted to surprise myself with a new GPU and PSU, not for anything specific, I mostly play Dota 2 and CS2 with my friends, along with that, I just want to finish RDR2 since I love the game. Other than that, absolutely no new games which I am interested in that much.

Installed the new GPU and PSU a few days ago, didn’t manage to try it out immediately, only yesterday and am kind of disappointed. Both Dota 2 and CS2 seem to be working worse than previously, much more unstable FPS throughout the game and dropping below 60fps. For reference, the old GPU would run CS2 at around 120-130 fps, and now this one is running at 80-90 with frequent drops to 50. Dota 2 acts the same. The weird thing is that RDR2 works much better than previously, at high/ultra settings it runs at around 80 fps, which is absolutely great, doesn’t have drops. The previous configuration was running the game at 40fps using the same settings.

Another weird thing is that the CPU is working at a very low usage rate (5-10%), but constantly at maximum frequency (3750MHz). The usage of the GPU is around 70% and both of the components temperatures don’t go above 50C.

For me and a couple of my friends, the most logical thing is that the CPU is too weak and I should get a new one. However, none of us are experts so I came to reddit for help. I was thinking of buying a Ryzen 7 5800X, but as this is a bigger investment by my standards, I just wanted to make sure that the CPU was the issue for sure.

One of the mistakes I made was not deleting the previous Nvidia drivers with DDU, however, I was reassured by multiple people this wouldn’t cause behavior like this. Also, my monitor (75hz AOC) is connected to the GPU by HDMI, could this be fixed by connecting it via Displayport? Honestly, at this point, I’m just hoping that a new CPU would solve the whole issue.

Thanks in advance guys!

Yeah, I triple-checked, just to make sure, all of the games have been manually reset to the old settings, if they’ve been changed.

I’ll make sure to uninstall all drivers and install the proper ones again, thanks for the advice. Do you think doing this via DDU while the new GPU is already installed can hurt it in any way?
