I own a weed control business - think TruGreen but local. I’m looking to streamline my marketing, because this year my cost per lead was way too high. What has worked for you? Overall our close rate was 85% or better on leads. 423 leads total.

54% of our leads were either referrals, former customers who reinstated, or people who saw our signs in lawns. These leads were free, but it’s possible they saw an ad that reminded them to call us.

22% of our leads came from postcards. This was expensive, but not as expensive per lead as some others.

6% - Local coupon type mailer - most expensive per lead.

18% - Online searches. Hard to know if they were driven to the website by other ads or not.

What works for you? How do you track leads? I use a very elementary spreadsheet, and it’s not good enough.

    Yes, referrals are the best type of lead. We’re very close to 100% close rate on those, because they’ve seen our work. Referrals are usually free as well.
