We have ordered an xdrive40 that will be arriving in a week or so, however, there is an M50 that was a backed out order at the same dealership with literally the exact same build (exterior, interior, options) aside from the extended shadowline (if we took the M50 I would consider wrapping the cerium gray to black) and heated rear seats. Our main concern is the range with the 20 inch rims for the m50, especially in midwest cold winters. If the M50 had 19 inch wheels we likely probably would’ve already taken it.
Does anyone have experience with improved range driving in eco or comfort mode in cold temperatures or in general? I did try to do a search of the subreddit but there was not much information there about this. I also have looked at several YouTube reviews and articles. Edmunds stated that the M50 got “268 miles in Edmunds’ real-world EV range test” on the 20 inch wheels.
Does anyone also know whether swapping the summer tires for all season would result in a decent range increase? Is there any possibility of the dealer (or somewhere else) maybe buying back the summer tires and putting credit towards a set of all-season? The commute wold likely be 100-150 miles total per day with only charging at home. I know that this is pretty safely in the M50s range but I am not sure if the winter temperatures (Midwest USA) will significantly drop it or not. Both cars are likely fairly similar but there is definitely just some extra appeal about that M even though it may not be a “true” M car.
