97 Grand Caravan 3.3
Figured I’d try replacing the relay before replacing filter and pump. Got the $7.50 one that was in stock vs waiting for the $30 one. Might try it just in case.
Basically, I’ve replaced the MAP sensor (had to get one from AutoZone since Rock Auto One didn’t work), Throttle sensor from Rock worked though, Crank sensor also worked, and changed the spark cables, and spark plugs. Haven’t had any real issues. But suddenly every now and then it dies when braking. Rarely. When it’s cold out someone’s it’ll turn off a few seconds after starting. Gotta rev it a bit too get it warmed up. It also has a slight rough idle for a minute before leveling or and becoming smoother.
No codes are thrown every time I check. I’m in Sac and drove up to Red Hawk Casino no issues. Replaced the relay and headed up there. Except when I was in the parking garage and slowly braking down the steep downgrade from floor to floor. Then when I was ready to leave it kept shutting off in the garage. Made it to the bottom to get out and it went off. Throwing the pedal down it didn’t have any go for a few seconds until it caught. As soon as I got off the freeway to the first exit for the back roads it shut off. So I switched the old relay back.
For the most part of worked just fine. Engine light came on every now and then. As long as the pedal was applied it’d stay on. However when coming from a stop or slower speed to go especially up hill there was no power. Even with the pedal to the floor. It’d take a few seconds to catch. Had to even pump the pedal to get it to even catch sometimes.
Back in the city however it was totally fine. Especially with minor hills going down Greenback. No issues.
I had a plan to replace fuel injectors, (possibly) coil pack, (more than likely) return the $7 relay for the $30, then get the Delphi fuel pump off Amazon since it’s around $65 vs AutoZone $160 - $200, and fuel filter (since I gotta drop the tank for both pump and filter). Tomorrow I’m going to AutoZone to use the pressure test and see how things look from there.
Any and all help/advice would be greatly appreciated. Please and thank you.
