Hi there, I’m trying to figure out what needs to replaced on my 2005 Toyota echo base model manual.
I went to get a safety done and they wrote on my paperwork:
Left rear park not holding(cable). Right rear sticking(cable).
When I took off the the drum on the right side to have a look the shoes are obviously worn irregularly from the brake being stuck. I can see the brake hardware is very rusty and it looks like the spring that releases the tension for the emergency brake cable may be inoperable.
What I’m trying to figure out is:
Is there a good way to sort out if it’s the braking spring hardware that needs to be replaced vs the cables for the emergency brake. Is it worth replacing the shoes and hardware and seeing if that resolves the problem or should I replace the cables as well at the same time?
Thanks!
