Hi all, I’m not knowledgeable enough to know if this is right or not.

Engine started misfiring out of the blue, car has been serviced regularly. Has about 103k miles now with the 3.5 V6.

AutoZone ran the code and it came back as ignition coils. Took it to a local shop and they said the codes were a guess to figure out. It showed everything from low battery to ABS. And that when one thing failed in a Toyota, it might throw up tons of different codes. They suggested taking it to the Dealer and didn’t even want to touch it.

Dealer inspected the coils and didn’t see any issue with them, plugs and wires also fine. But found oil inside two cylinders and they sent some pics. I said if the ignition coil went, wouldn’t oil build up? And they said no oil in the tubes, only the cylinders. Likely a gasket or seal leaking.

Their recommendation is to replace with a used engine and it’s not worth the cost on this car.

What should I do here? It’s a daily driver and we’re pretty much without a car. Any help or advice would be appreciated.

Thanks, only one around that I really trust and they’re the ones who suggested I take it to the dealer. I just called them and explained everything… they said they’ll do some research and get back to me, but I should bring the car over when I can.
