I know a win next week wouldn’t mathematically clinch the NFC for the eagles but it would realistically put them in a spot where they would have to really blow it to not get it. Let me break down why:
Eagles play the cardinals and the giants twice to end the year. It’s never a guarantee in the NFL but with those teams probably being completely eliminated by then I don’t see a way the eagles lose a meaningful game to either of those. That puts the eagles realistically worse record at this point as 13-4 and with a win next weak 14-3. Remember it’s not guarantee but just for the sake of this discussion let’s say they don’t blow it.
The other 2 teams in contention are the lions and cowboys who both already have 3 losses:
Cowboys have an L to the cardinals and 49ers but beat the jets so we would be at 2-1 in the common games tie breaker with a win next week. They still need to play the bills and dolphins both on the road who we already beat. They also still have to play the lions so one of them will take a loss there. Dallas is incredibly bad shape in the division if we win next week regardless of what happens in our matchup the week after.
Lions just had their 2nd NFC loss of the year and the eagles only have 2 tough NFC games left after the niners. That means the lions would need to win against the vikings twice and the cowboys on the road. They also play a tough broncos team who is hot right now.
So, with all that said, nothing is guaranteed with a win next week but it puts the Eagles in incredibly good shape. Without them blowing a game against bad opponents, the other teams would need to basically win out to have a chance. Even then, all the tiebreaker scenarios are assuming losses to the cowboys and Seahawks too which is far from a given. This game needs to have playoff like atmosphere from the fans and the players need to treat it like a must-win. Let’s get it done.
Yup exactly. A win basically does it.
