BYU fan here, so maybe take this with a grain of salt. But this dude can ball.
2021 started 10 games as a sophomore:
2,500 yards, 65% completion rate. 20 TD’s, 5 Int’s. 300 yards rushing and 3 TD’s.
2022 junior year:
3,100 yards, 66% completion rate. 31 TD’s, 6 Int’s. 350 yards rushing and 3 TD’s.
Jaren’s an accurate and efficient game manager. He’s also a legitimate dual threat. BYU underutilized him in the run game due to injury history, but he’s got the speed and vision to make big plays with his legs.
Jaren’s an accurate and athletic QB who won’t make you lose your shit forcing throws. He’ll get you 1st downs on the ground. He’s above average-good in the short to mid yardage passing attack. Some question his deep ball, although that wasn’t a problem at BYU
His best attributes might be his leadership and maturity though. Natural born leader that presents himself well and is respected by his teammates.
Absolutely a steal in the 5th round. Rumblings early last year had him as a late 1st/mid 2nd rounder. Age and injury history were the biggest reasons he fell imo. Missed time every year, including a season ending injury in 2019 when he and Zach Wilson were going back and forth for the starting job.
Player comp would be Russel Wilson imo. Almost the exact same play style and build as Wilson in Seattle. They both played baseball in college even. Hall is the better athlete though.
Non of this might translate in the NFL, but he’s an exciting QB prospect that has all the tools.
Maybe a deal gets done before the deadline for a QB, but if not Jaren’s more than capable to keep the Vikings fighting for the playoffs. Can’t wait to see what he can do against the Falcons with a full week of 1st team reps.
New Vikings fan for life here
That’s what I’m saying. Puka had high praise for him, and considering he’s a receiving leader as a rookie, I think that’s good standing.
