I was talking more about the run-pass split and run schemes (mainly out of gun). Which is odd as KC lines up in power formations way more often than we do, but I assume that’s due to Sam’s weakness with footwork under center. I wasn’t really talking about the WR route concepts.
Still, Scott wasn’t a willing runner of the ball and EB is even worse. Ron basically had to force Scott to change his scheme to run more Duo and power run schemes to hide the weaknesses of Norwell and Turner in pass blocking, but it had the added value of making our play-action much more effective. Than Scott randomly abandoned it back to the Air Coryell system in the 2nd Giants game.
Ron then jettisoned both and moved 2 smaller athletic former OTs as the OGs, which fits EBs more screen heavy system but was expecting us to still run power which highlights the weakness for both Charles and Cosmi. It also puts more pressure on Sam as the screen game has become ineffective with Charles out and Howells poor footwork from under center has completely negated the play-action game.
I do think EB is growing week to week but is held back by the limitations of Howell, who has not taken advantage of many opportunities created by play design due to either hesitation to pull the trigger or inaccuracy on deep shots. I am probably in the minority that I would like to keep EB for another year.
