This topic is in regards to Stylosa’s video and the devs mentioning such a thing.

As it goes, Quickplay seems to have a running issue with the leave rate according to the devs. That the penalties raised some talk about not having them and discussion of having a third mode came up.

He goes to say in the directors take…

“Different people play Quick Play for different reasons. Some people see it as their try-hard version of the game, some view it as a way to experiment with heroes, and others use it as their casual, just-for-fun version of the game. It’s really difficult to have this part of the game be all things for all people.”

This struck a chord with me as I do play a lot of quick play myself. If you play quick play what is main reasoning?

It struck me as I usually duo with a friend in quick play. My situation being a tad unique I suppose because my friend is just an impatient fuck(feels comp games last too long. I would personally play comp if I soloed these days but I don’t much anymore)

We usually play quick play in seriousness most times for wins but do on occasion fuck around on heroes we don’t normally play if we queue those roles. For me I primarily play support and tank less so now. But on occasion I play dps especially if we have more folks.

So I personally don’t fall in the experimental category in the above quote I’d say.

You could argue that arcade is where a lot of casual players should go and learn a hero and have fun. But some people are clearly wanting to play the game as marketed so to speak. Or unmodified for a lack of a better word for it.

It did get me wondering if there was a third mode what would it look like.

I feel like you could combine the people who are casual and try new heroes in a similar category but separate from the people who dislike ranked and the pressure of it to just a mode for wins and winning in general. A different level of sweaty.

What would that mode look like? I imagined a mode that is untangled but perhaps yielded comp points for the gold weapons but that would deter from comp itself so that doesn’t sound great.

The reason I imagined that is to give player incentive via reward and the problem here is there really isn’t any progression without buying the battle pass in this game tbh. Regardless of the devs trying, in ow1, we had loot boxes every level at least. Any other free progression is by internal player satisfaction of learning a hero and playing said hero. But that’s not really … tangible.

The only other thing I could imagine is a mode where you earned more experience for the battle pass. Have that as a mode and add that feature also to comp. So that you have quick play with that feature, that third mode with that do bonus and comp with all its features plus xp bonus.

BUT that means you’d have to buy battle pass.

I don’t really know if any other games have had a similar issue and have tried to try alternative solutions particularly in the vein of adding a third queue between casual and ranked.

What do you all think? Is it worth doing? Is it needed? Would you like it?

Especially when the discussion arouse based on leavers too. And you do wanna consider at some point… people will just leave. Period.
