These are the takes that didn’t make the cut for my FantasyPros article!
If you’d prefer the video, we’re up to Episode 10 of Fantasy Games Won!
Wait, what is FGW? Here’s where I explain that in writing and on YouTube.
TL;DR: FGW is the likely change in win percentage of Head-to-Head fantasy football matchups a player has won his team. dFGW is FGW adjusted for ADP. Going from 50% to 95% is FGW of 0.45. % Started also matters.
C.J. Stroud scored more fantasy points in Week 9 than any other QB has scored in a week thus far in 2023 (using typical scoring systems). Stroud didn’t completely come out of nowhere, either, a la De’Von “4Chan” Achane in Week 3.
Stroud was started in 43% of leagues in Week 9. Rankings had him around 9th for QBs, so the serious fantasy managers might have started him more like 57% of the time. He basically gets half credit for his huge week. Jalen Hurts was almost more useful in Week 9 because his 27.9 points were almost always started (98%).
Fantasy Games Won: Director’s Cut
- Cleveland’s impression of a historically good defense is even better than Ryan Stiles’ impression of John Wayne. If that reference seems out of nowhere, my train of thought was Cleveland > Drew Carey Show > Whose Line Is It Anyway.
- They say you should do CPR at the rhythm of Stayin’ Alive by the Bee Gees. CeeDee is in a rhythm and is keeping his fantasy managers alive.
- I may have to take a look at the number of carries RBs are getting inside the 5 yard line, because I strongly suspect it’s much lower than it was in the glory days of LT, Priest, Shaun Alexander, Larry Johnson, and co. Ekeler getting 2 goal line carrier and converting them actually made me feel nostalgic this week.
- Pacheco continuing to drag his fantasy managers on a quest through a barren wasteland. As a fellow New Jersey native, he’s probably very comfortable there. Is Jerick McKinnon the Gollum to Pacheco’s Frodo?
- Travis Kelce hasn’t had a week like this since 2021. Did Taylor travel to Europe? Maybe that was the problem.
- Gabe Davis is going to inspire so many fantasy managers to never draft him again. His last four weeks have gone: Week 6 – 56% started – 1.6 pts; Week 7 – 58% started – 1.1 pts; Week 8 – 11% started – 19.2 Pts; Week 9 – 56% started – 0 Pts.
- Justin Herbert didn’t do poorly enough for the Jets to beat him. Come on, Herbie, if you’re going to kill my fantasy team, at least don’t bring my NFL team down with you.
\“We’re from Indiana! And we’re gonna move.\” - Jim Gaffigan
- These are the players with the most FGW NOT in starting lineups. So a list of missed opportunities, or a list of players whose good weeks didn’t really matter.
- CJ Stroud the latest double-duty JV/Varsity player. Obviously he’s getting called up for the near future.
- Chris Berman’s “Farmer in the Dell” and “Colonel Mostert in the Conservatory” lines reminded me that he’s the kind of the nickname. There is no higher honor as an NFL player than getting a Berman nickname, and they’re non-negotiable. Colonel Mostert it is.
- I have Cade Otton almost as high on the Cade power rankings as Dalton Schultz is on the Dalton power rankings. That offseason video is inevitable.

How Deep Is Your Love…For Texans?
With the FantasyPros gig, I’m still trying to figure out what goes here versus FP versus my blog, so happy to field ideas if anyone wants to share thoughts on what would increase the enjoyment you get from the info here.
Hope you’ve spent the last few days dancing to the Cee Dees. If you had any Texas-based fantasy player not named Pollard in your lineup, you probably were. If you instead had to improvise a way of of Stayin’ Alive, just remember that we’re all going down in this Fantasy Football ship together. It’s been a privilege and an honor. Good luck in Week 10!
I don’t have it up right now but I pretty sure Danny Jones had too low of a percent started to go very negative
