A while ago, I posted a review of some tennis podcasts. Part 1 was about analysis podcasts which focus on players’ games and tactics and less on off-court stuff. Part 2 is all about weekly summary podcasts. These pods release episodes somewhat regularly and summarize the tour level and team tournaments that occurred over a week. They do some analysis but most do a mix of on-court and off-court summary. I’ll post Part 3, which is about chatty podcasts that focus more on off-court stuff, next.

1- The Tennis Podcast (UK)

  • Hosted by David Law - BBC radio commentator, Catherine Whitaker - Amazon Prime presenter and Matt Roberts - stats guy and journalist
  • It’s the one I’d recommend to anyone who is more than a casual fan but maybe isn’t too deeply into tennis. They cover the most relevant events in tennis and they’re release episodes pretty regularly
  • I think they’re the biggest pod by number of listeners. They have the biggest access and influence in the tennis world among tennis pods
  • They have daily podcasts during slams. Other podcasts try to do daily slam episodes but this pod does the best job of capturing the mood after an epic day of grand slam tennis
  • Tennis relived episodes - they go in-depth into an event or story in tennis history. Eg. Suzanne Lenglen’s Story, Marat Safin 2000 … usually right before slams. They interview people that know the players and sometimes the players themselves. New re-lived episodes are no longer accessible without a fee but all of their old re-lived episodes are free and they’re gems
  • Tend to discuss social topics around tennis more than other shows in this category
  • There are better podcasts for news and analysis but they do the daily slam episodes and tennis re-lived shows better than anyone
  • They say unnecessary stuff about players they don’t care about. Other than that, it’s pretty good

2- Tennis Weekly (UK)

  • It’s the equivalent to a weekly tennis news show
  • Hosted by regular folk Kim, Joel and Chris. Chris is a recent addition and imo the best member of the group
  • The Tennis Podcast might skim over some tournaments (like the post Wimbledon clay swing) but this pod gives each tournament its due
  • Chris sometimes goes to lower level tournaments and they talk about what it’s like to attend 250 and 500 level tournaments + player interviews
  • Have mid-episode quizzes which are fun
  • During slams, they release episodes for every round

3- The Iga and Carlos Tennis Show (US and Poland)

  • Hosted by Vansh and Damien Kust - both active on tennis twitter
  • Created to follow the careers of Iga Swiatek and Carlos Alcaraz
  • Similar to Three - A Tennis Show, only release episodes when Iga and Carlos are playing
  • Do more analysis that the other podcasts in this category

4- Talking Tennis

  • Created by John Silk; hosted by different people but Nick Carter is usually there for WTA Weekly and Damien Kust for ATP
  • Two episodes per week: ATP Weekly and WTA Weekly
  • This also tends to have more analysis
  • There is also a YouTube channel where the hosts commentate on matches

5- Tennis Channel Live (US)

  • Audio from Tennis Channel’s kinda daily post-match show
  • Some parts not really good on audio - especially when they show highlight reels
  • Great for the Andy Roddick takes

6- WTA Insider Podcast

  • It’s the official WTA podcast
  • Hosted by WTA writer Courtney Nguyen
  • Interviews the champion of WTA singles title winners - mainly for WTA 500 and above but not always (still no interview with Vondrousova)
  • Sometimes includes interviews with coaches and other team members
  • It became a weekly Iga podcast for a while in 2022

7- ATP Tennis Radio Podcast

  • Hosted by ATP commentators
  • Similar to the WTA Insider but usually doesn’t interview the tournament winners
  • Interviews players who did well that week, doubles players, and other people at tournaments
