I just reached masters for the first time and I don’t know if anyone else feels the same in the reduced amount of days you can bank per day. Being in diamond, you could comfortably bank 7 days for one game, so if you wanted a week or two of break from the game then you only had to play 1-2 games. But getting ONE rank higher, it goes from 7 banked days per game to only one? You’d need to play 14 games instead to just get 2 weeks of (which I also believe is the max amount of banking days for masters+).
Now, to be fair, I understand that the higher you get, the more competitive the game gets, and therefore you need to play the game more often to consistently keep your skill up. But it still feels really too steep of a change in my mind. Personally speaking, I could still play on the same skill level every three days without losing my consistency of skill in any way.
Furthermore, other esports games with ranking systems similar to league don’t require such high time investment as league. CS GO for example only requires you to play one game every month to keep your rank: https://www.vintageisthenewold.com/game-pedia/is-there-decay-in-cs-go
Both apex legends and overwatch 2 got rid of their rank decay systems: https://esports.gg/news/overwatch/overwatch-2-rank-decay/
And to my knowledge, Dota 2 doesn’t have such a harsh decay system as league does.
So why is the league system that harsh. I believe we should also consider amateurs or casuals that are also in the Master rank, but yet don’t have league as ther full time job like other streamers do. Sometimes it could feel good mentally to just take a day or two break from the game for the amount lf stress it can cause, especially in ranked.
Again, I do understand and see the point of rank decay: You neee to be able to keep up your consistency and skill, which is why decay exists. Else you could just play up to masters and then take vacation the rest of the season.
But would it really hurt that much to up the banked days per game from 1 to 3-4 instead? That should ease up the stress for amateurs whilst still keeping them on track imo.
What do you think?
Riot should actually ask for feedback in-game once in a while whether they should keep something like the decay system as it is.
