The box score officially showed Isaiah likely with zero catches on two targets. But he was actually a lot more involved than that if you watched the whole game. I just posted a thread on this but wanted to share here.
The touchdown by Nelson Agholor was actually intended for Isaiah Likely but it was tipped. That doesn’t register as a target. VIDEO
On the first official target for Likely, he made a classic young player mistake of taking his eye off the play to check for defenders. It looks like a bad pass by Lamar at first glance but the commentators correctly point out it was Likely’s fault. But he was open. VIDEO
A couple of plays later they ran the exact same play and it worked again. Likely caught it this time but it was holding on John Simpson. Redo of down, no catch or target registered. VIDEO
In the fourth quarter, they dial up back-to-back plays for Likely. On the first one he was open but the pocket broke down and Lamar took it himself (and slipped). And on the second one Likely was open again but Lamar was late with the throw and threw an uncatchable pass. VIDEO
After Andrews got hurt, Likely played virtually every snap and they were clearly looking his way. In my opinion, you aren’t going to find that kind of upside on the wire so I’m adding him in leagues where I need some upside at TE. He’s not Andrews obviously so the floor might not be great but we have to give ourselves a shot at upside.
Thank you for coming to my TED Talk on a singular backup tight end.
