We need our good players to not be hurt. and for our players who should be developing to actually play well.
The fact is the pistons were in the absolute worst place for an NBA team. The van gundy pathetic reach for an 8th seed had left the team with no good vets and no good young players, missing picks in the future.
So this rebuild didn’t start with a pick horde from trading a star. That was the end of the dumars era, when Bill Davidson getting ill and dying left the team in stasis, and chances to rebuild were ruined for sad attempts to tread water.
If the team was run better, would cade be shooting better, would he be stronger? Probably.
If the team was run better, could injuries to vets be prevented, eh not really
If the team was smarter, would there be more vets or young players who knew how to shoot, instead of random lottery busts?
Probably
Basically the team needs to keep stumbling along getting picks so that they can build or rebuild in a normal NBA fashion. It’s not going to be easy. And only if the NBA lets us have the pick in a year with a no doubt star type will we get to jump ahead. (and they probably won’t)
Yea unfortunately the NBA is not setup for parity like the nfl. You can’t buy your way out of a bad spot like baseball. So when you go all in to lose in the first round of the playoffs and you are not a free agent destination it can cripple a team for a decade and that’s where we are now. Begging pleading hoping to get some star power in the lottery. Unfortunately cade ain’t it and we got stuck with pick 5 last year. Is what it is just don’t expect them to be good any time soon.
