Gonna preface with his accuracy was off yesterday and it cost us. Not disputing that. On that note, he came in cold and his accuracy being slightly off on tough throws is not unexpected.
His decision making and the speed those throws came out at was imo great. I haven’t gone back and rewatched the throws or anything but i really liked his decisions. He completely nullified the pass rush and some off those plays were “long developing” ones that I personally feel like Geno has been slow with.
Throw to JSN deep middle is a touchdown if he looks back after getting to the second level. I honestly think Lock threw this ball exactly where he wanted. Only JSN would have had a play on the ball and if he makes the adjustment to his route, he catches it in stride with nothing but green ahead of him.
His interception throw was still the right throw. Lockett had a step on his guy and Lock uncorked that thing so fast. But timing was off and result was unfortunate. If that’s DK or even Bobo, I think they make the contested catch.
I think I just really felt for the guy. It was a tough spot to be put in and he really almost came away the hero. If he is the guy this week and gets the reps in with the 1s I’m still excited to see what he can do.
I honestly feel like Geno struggles when his primary read isn’t open and he has to read the field for alternatives. He gets around this with otherworldly accuracy and can force it to the primary reads. The fact that JSN didn’t even consider that he was getting the ball on that throw even though he was open because he wasn’t primary kinda reinforces that.
I think I just see something in Lock that we don’t get with Geno and it has kept us from really asserting ourselves in a game. When Geno is at his best, he is following the script and we are enforcing our game plan on the opposing team. But he isn’t necessarily taking what the defense gives him. So after the first 20 plays or whatever, we start stalling. Where it seems like Lock can take in the whole field at once and make a snap decision on where the best place to put the ball is.
I know this is probably some level of copium but something has felt off about Geno all year and even last year.
PS- I don’t care if it is copium or not, the refs gifted the rams 4 points. What a fucking joke that PI call was
Enough excuses. You 100% didn’t like what you saw. You just thought his situation was unfair.
