In 2022, the Patriots traded 1-21 to Kansas for 1-29, 3-94, and 4-121. Kansas selected Trent McDuffie, who has been a top 32 CB across his first two seasons.
Also still available: Quay Walker, LB; Kaiir Elam, CB; Tyler Smith, OT; Jermaine Johnson II, DE; Devin Lloyd, LB; George Karlaftis, DE.
With 1-29, the Patriots reached for guard Cole Strange, who is an unplayable pass protector and liability.
The Patriots traded 3-94 to the Carolina Panthers for 4-137 and 2023 3-76. The Panthers would use 3-94 to draft QB Matt Corral, who would be traded to the Patriots and then cut in 2023.
With 2022 pick 4-121, the Patriots drafted CB Jack Jones, alleged felon and cut less than half way through the 2023 season.
With 2022 pick 4-137, the Patriots drafted Bailey Zappe, QB, who the Patriots outright cut heading into the season. He is still on the team because no other team was willing to sign him.
With 2023 pick 3-76, the Patriots drafted Marte Mapu, who has been involved in 13 combined tackles, including assists, and has yet to do anything else in his NFL career.
Would have been nice to have just picked McDuffie, who literally everyone was high on heading into the draft.
I was thinking this last night. If they take McDuffie they don’t need to take Gonzo this year and instead could’ve drafted someone on offense. Instead we got Cole F’in Strange.
