Good morning. I have 2 iStarUSA BPN-DE110SS-BLACK devices in a Fractal Define R5 that have been in service for a few years. They’re single 5.25" to 3.5". They work stellar with WD Blue, Green, even the occasional Black. I hit a bump when it comes to Red Pro NAS drives. The Red’s external SATA interface is lower by just a smidge - which makes it impossible to use the hot-swap bays. While experimenting with both I’ve discovered I can only use these bays with a Red Pro NAS if I install the bay upside-down. This isn’t end of the world for me, but I’m definitely seeking any red light or green light on the following:

flexiDOCK MB830SP-B

FatCage MB153SP-B

For context, all bays inside the R5 are occupied and I added a Type B cage that sits between the existing lower cage and my PSU, this is full also. I’m looking to keep the removable drive ability, but also gain the advantage of the 2 bays to 3 drives. If you have positive experiences with either of the potential new bays and Red Pro NAS drives specifically, holler.

Thank you.

The SATA spec is a standard and the dimensions for the connector location should be identical from disk to disk from the bottom and the side of the disk. Disks can be taller, but width and length is fixed as is the SATA connector. I’d think perhaps the connector on the cage is off rather than the disk.

In either case, I have a couple of the Flexidock bays and they work fine with everything from 500GB disks to 18TB disks that I’ve used in it so far.
