It is very clear to me that someone in the coaching staff just got a ton more juice. Here are some changes in the offense that Ty can’t possibly be the author of:
*Real off-ball movement from Kawhi and PG. Finally they are getting the ball in areas where less dribbling and dribble-drives are necessary. They get to their spots faster and in proper flow. I was so tired of seeing them start their dribble drive from the half court line.
*Starting Mann. Mann helps the pace, helps on rebounds and defense, helps on defensive gaps, helps Zu. He covers gaps in both offense and defense. I’ve been chirping about starting Mann for years, I can’t believe it’s actually happening. 🥺
*Players are leaving Harden on the top of the key to operate instead of them trying to do so. This allows better passing lanes, spacing for his own plays, and better flow. This is quite new. We’ve had plenty of guards that could have taken this role in past seasons but for some reason, the players are moving and letting Harden operate in the top of the key without too much hassle.
*PG is handling the ball less. Nuff said.
These changes are pretty huge. These changes could have been made years ago but Ty refused. Why now? 🤔
I guess hot seats make you do drastic “adjustments.”
There’s only one more change that must occur in order to maximize the input of the center position.
Now that the key players are moving and getting to their spots without the ball, Zu needs to get off that side-of-key area they keep throwing him to. He needs to be able move also and find ways to pin folks. Especially in chance of possession or fast breaks, he can’t be told to go the side. He needs to go straight into the middle of the paint and pin people. Shaq says that he would get 10 to 15 just on that move alone. Zu is not Shaq but he can get 4 to 10, and get people into foul trouble, and tire them out. Attrition would be on the other team instead of us–In a shooting league, this is key.
I hope that whoever has more juice in the coaching staff can see this.
It’s always hilarious seeing a random fan insisting, “I know better than the coach!” Are there times that Ty (and all coaches) just fuck up? Totally. Look at Mook all of last year. That was madness.
But this shit is horrendous.
All of this is revisionist history and it’s acting like this is the same team we had for the past 4 years, and that Ty Lue is an idiot for not doing all of these things. It turns out, when you get Russ and James Harden, things open up quite a bit to change your team’s dynamic. But sure, I guess a random Redditor knows better than Ty Lue, Kawhi, and PG.
