When I first played Skyrim and heard the term “jarl”, I assumed the developers invented it as a Norse-sounding word for a leader. Turns out it’s an actual word for a Nordic/Danish chieftain.

And back in the PS1 days, I watched my brother played Parasite Eve. Much of the game involved mutating mitochondria. It was only a few months later that we covered mitochondria in middle-school biology.
