I know everyone wants a WR and I agree we need more than Thielen but there’s only so much cap space and draft picks. We need to invest heavily in our OL this offseason to take some of the pressure off Bryce. Maybe then we could actually do some of our longer plays and our receivers wouldn’t look as bad. I know building your lines isn’t sexy so Tepper probably won’t want to do it but that’s how you win football. If we build our O line and sign another veteran mid tier WR I think it would work a lot better than trying to get a star WR and not having an O line.

It’s the chicken and the egg. It’s unclear what the main problem is. There are two issues at hand.

    1. We are allowing a ton of sacks
    2. Our receivers can’t get separation

Does the OL suck? Maybe. But they also have to block longer because it takes forever for routes to develop. Compounding this problem, defenses don’t respect our deep game. DBs can just sit up close in zone and makes finding a hole in the zone extremely difficult.

At the same time, maybe even with our slow receivers they could eventually get separation if the line held up longer. Maybe some guys still get through the line but Bryce takes fewer coverage sacks.

It just seems like a compounding problem. The longer the season goes on, the more confident defenses get that they have no reason to play the deep threat. They can sit underneath in zone all day long.

So I’m conflicted. I do think if we had one really fast, really good receiver it would help the line because defenses couldn’t play as aggressively or as close.
