Is it just me, or are there plenty of possessions where Sengun has lots of space outside the inner part of the paint and defenders don’t close in? Like, they’ll sag deep in the paint in case of drives and post-ups rather than staying near Sengun.

While not high volume, Sengun has been really efficient from 10-24 ft. Hell, the site that does the EPM advanced stat (he’s consistently been inside the top 20 in the league this season so far btw) lists Sengun’s midrange at 53.5% and in the 90th percentile! His bread and butter are layups, dunks, and the hook + push shot from within 10 ft and especially within 5 ft. Defenses focus on the latter, and I feel like Sengun can punish them more for that.

I like Sengun’s pass-focused mentality and IQ to look for the seeming best play. I like our diverse scoring offense. And I get that the league focuses on efficiency at close range or the 3, and Sengun’s 3 hasn’t been that good. But even if the efficiency goes down with more volume, Sengun’s midrange would still be great with his touch. He needs to be more confident to shoot from farther out. He ought to make defenses respect him more by shooting more from the midrange.

Make them close in to stop it. Make them open the paint for drives/cuts from others or to open up Al-P himself to drive. I feel like defenses cheat off him too much and he should let loose on easy open shots to punish them.
