There are just a lot of things that are similar between the two teams that stand out to me

  1. Exact same record this year, 1 game difference last year

  2. Led by a crafty, score-first point guard who thrives in the clutch and a bruising, emotional big who is a good post scorer and playmaker. 6th man of the year caliber player comes off the bench and can completely take over games. Not really a good comparison for RJ, the closest would be Keegan Murray

  3. Franchises had a period of contention in the recent past (90s for us, early 2000s for them) but afterwards had a long stretch of bad years and became a joke in the league

  4. After changing head coaches, completely reestablished team identity (Mike Brown instilled a offensive system, Thibs a defensive one). Immediately after the coach joins the team returns to the playoffs for the first time in a long while and the coach wins COTY.

  5. After making the playoffs for the first time, the teams lose in the first round.

There isn’t really a point to this post, it was just interesting how similar the teams are in terms of narrative and composition.
