I keep feeling dumbfounded with all that’s played out since the end of last year. Are they de-prioritizing him, are they not? Are they going to resign him or look to move him? What’s the market for him? What would they be looking to get for him? What’s the plan for the rest of the roster? Are we firesaling or staying the course. With every passing week and every up and down performance from the team, I’m left with more questions than answers. It’s perplexing.

People mock the idea of continuing to evaluate, but that just reflects a really poor understanding of how front offices work. There’s no trades to be made right now. There probably won’t be for a player of Siakam’s level until closer to the deadline. So what does a NBA office do in the meantime? Decide that you’ve made your decision and now just sit on your hands for a couple months and wait for a good offer to role in? Or continue to evaluate absolutely everything, from Siakam both on and off the court, other players on the team, Darko, other potential trade partners, other potential trade targets, potential moves that other teams will make to free up offseason cap space, etc. Fans get extremely narrow vision in terms of how they evaluate front office moves, and like to act like they’re smarter than GMs because they make their extremely limited-information decision much faster than front-offices, making much more complex calculations.
