I can’t be the only one that was excited about the Rashad Penny signing. When he was healthy he was an absolute beast. He averaged over 6 yards a carry in 2021 and 2022 until he was injured. I assumed he was going to beat out Kenny Gainwell and be competing with D’Andre Swift for the number one spot. It’s like he’s not even on the team this year. No one mentions his name and he’s played about 3 snaps as far as I can recall.

What happened is the coaches are awful at talent evaluation. Kenny Gainwell was the starter and got the vast majority of the touches in the week one opener. Swift only got an opportunity to take the starting spot due to Gainwell’s injury in week one, which forced the coaches’ hand. I know the downvotes will rain down on me but week 1 and week 2 give you all you need to know about these coaches. I have no doubt in my mind that if Rashaad Penny were given meaningful playing time it would be a repeat of the exact same situation. The team plays favorites with Gainwell plain and simple.

I honestly don’t understand why they are so enamored with Gainwell. His stats this year are terrible.

They are enamored with not paying a RB a chunk of their cap.

Swift, Penny, Scott and Gainwell combined count $6 million against the cap.

Saquon Barkley counts almost 2x that amount and he was injured so 0 availability for several games.

        vs

        Gainwell injured. Swift steps.

Any other injuries Penny, Swift, Gainwell and Giant Killer Scott can step in.
