Terry McLaurin- 3 years, 68 million. Visibly has lost a step, currently on pace for less than 1,000 receiving yards in 17 games.
Jon Allen- 4 years, 72 million. He’s been better at jumping offsides and giving motivational speeches than anything else this year.
Daron Payne- 4 years, 90 million. Non-factor in the pass rush this year, low effort on a lot of plays, hasn’t been a disruptor in the run game.
Cutting or Trading Allen Pre June is a Net plus $3 Mil CAP savings
Cutting or Trading Terry pre-June is a net minus $5 mil. Cap hit
Cutting or Trading Payne pre-June is a net minus $15mil CAP hit
That all needs to be factored in too. So, in 24 you will have Terry and Payne about $20m in dead Cap, then, on top of that, pay their replacements, If Allen’s replacement is +3m APV it is more expensive to lose him. I almost sure that will not get us the same quality player.
I am disappointed in their performance, but I think even that has been adequate, to expensive this season, but adequate. I would not use Cap space to open up even more holes in the Team. I would use the money to fill other holes like at corner, O-line, edge rushers, resign Curl, replace/resign Gibson & Samuel, maybe a veteran back-up QB, maybe some linebackers? Of course use the Draft - that is where we will successful rebuild.
TLDR: It doesn’t make financial sense to cut/trade Terry and Payne. I think it is problematic to do it with Allen & likely leaves us a weaker Team. We have too many other holes in this Team to create more next season.
