Hello, so we’ve just recently moved into an new house and I’m hoping to improve our internet setup. Currently we’re on fiber (from Hyperoptic) with the modem and router (default ISP provided devices) coming in downstairs and then I have a ZTE Minihub (also ISP provided) upstairs relaying the WiFi.

Before using the minihub the signal upstairs could be quite poor for video calls etc.

As wiring ethernet to upstairs isn’t feasible, I’ve just purchased a set of Moca adapters that I’m waiting on and will attempt to relay from downstairs to up, via coax. I’ll then broadcast wifi again upstairs from the Moca and hardwire my desktop into the Moca.

I’ve ran the Waveform Bufferbloat test and getting the below results on my desktop/gaming PC hard wired into the minihub. I’m hoping the Moca will improve the jump I’m currently making between the router and minihub while also generally improving Wifi upstairs.

As I’m relatively new to home networking, I had a couple of questions -

  1. Are my assumptions right and the the Moca adapters should improve my networking performance upstairs given the setup I’ve described above?
  2. Will this also solve my poor performance regarding bufferbloat or should I look at an improved router as suggested by WaveForm?
  3. If I was to get a new router, WaveForm recommends the Eeros in terms of ease of setup. However, with all my research I’m still a bit confused if I should be sticking to the V5s or if SQM is fully implemented in the V6s yet. As you can see from the screenshot further below, Waveform seem to at first recommend the V6 but then further down mention that V6 has issues, so V5 is recommended. I haven’t been able to find any recent articles/reviews mentioning that they have been resolved so wanted to confirm before I pull the trigger on the older model.
  4. Are there any other generally perferred routers that you would suggest than the Eero in terms of improved performance + ease of setup?

Returning back to this - after some messing around with adapters for the cables to the wall ports I’ve stalled the Moca adapters and it worked flawlessly and bumped my blufferbloat scan to an A. Going to hold off on the router replacement for now I think.
