Hi everyone, happy Black Friday! Alright, I checked… And then checked again. I don’t think I’m asking a repeat question.

I have a 1997 GMC K1500 SLE, complete with the failing paint catalyst and everything… I’m having issues finding stuff online and on YouTube so decided to look into the old books. (Few months ago: Had to replace a heater inlet hose and connection, sheared that off bc of course and had to rethread. I had to literally spend an hour to find out that we needed a plumbing tap bc some gm super genius decided that made sense…)

Seems unanimous that OEM/FSM is best, but I don’t have $300 to throw at it. So can someone let me know why Chilton or Haynes is better/worse/etc. There seems to be a gap in the mundane fixes that 1A Auto and other YouTube channels cover as well as my google-fu lacking terminology; which I hope to bridge with the book(s).

Is there a particular reason, or that’s what you grew up with kind of thing?
