TL after 9 games of rookie season:

I’m gonna agree with you. I think a lot of these commenters are missing the forest for the trees. QB is only one piece of the puzzle. O-line and receivers and RBs are out of Bryce’s hands. Lawrence and Bryce have a lot of very similar stats in their rookie years. Yes, T-Law turned it around but only through a coaching change. Nobody is guaranteeing that Bryce will have the same turnaround as Bryce, but it’s obvious that both Meyer and Reich were/are the problem with the offense more than the rookie QB is. Why is the yards per carry stat for our RBs so much worse than it was last year and worse than the jags’ yards per carry under Urban Meyer. That’s a huge tell of organizational failure. It also limits the success of the QB. If the RBs can’t average 4 yards per carry, then we’re going to get into a lot of 3rd and long situations. We have a higher percentage of 3rd & 7+ yards than the jags had. Our YAC per receptions is worse. Much higher sack rate. Higher pressure rate. It’s difficult for me to sit here and agree with Reich being 10x worse than Urban when the stats have Reich slightly worse in terms of all offensive performance this year. I would rate Reich and Meyer similarly but for different reasons. Meyer wasn’t focused at all on the team and really didn’t seem to care about the NFL or the jaguars. Reich is focused and he does care, but he’s just not very good. He’s forcing his scheme on a team of players that don’t fit his scheme. Even if the players fit the scheme, I’m not sure the offense would be great. As many of pointed out, this is basically a high school offensive scheme. This may have worked 5 years ago, but this scheme isn’t going to work in the NFL unless we have an insane offensive line and one of the top 3 QBs.
