Figured I’d ask here. I have a Walter Payton helmet that I bought in the early 90’s from one of the home shopping networks. I have a general certificate of authenticity, but it’s not numbered or holographed. I have no doubt it’s genuine as Walter was on the show signing a bunch of them when I bought it.

Should I send it in and have it authenticated by Becketts, PSA, or JSA? Is it worthless without? My other concern is that I don’t want it to sell it to a resaler, I want it to go to a fan that will appreciate it. However, I don’t live in Chicago (I’m in Omaha, NE) It’s been in the curio cabinet in my man cave for 30 years. We are looking to downsize and I have to part with some of my collection.

Any suggestions appreciated (event the ones that suggest I wait until they have a winning season, lol)

At this point, I think I’m going to send it to PSA for grading/authentication. Based on what I’m seeing they can go for $2k on up. For that amount of money, I want to make sure that it’s authentic. And without an official certification, someone will want to use that to negotiate the price down.

Thanks for the interest. I can message you once I get it back.
