I’ve seen some photos of the top women’s players at the WTA Finals gala and I was a bit surprised at how few women are the coaching staffs of the top players in the game. Like every player’s staff is almost entirely men, with only a few women that are either family or mental health coaches. I don’t have a problem with men coaching women’s players at all but I feel that it’s lacking to not have many female coaches for a sport that has historically been pretty progressive when it comes to women’s rights. Is there any reason why this is the case? Are male coaches able to give more “tough love” or be more aggressive as coaches? It’s just a little perplexing to me and I’m curious to know why
tons of professions have fewer women than men just because of societal expectation, I don’t think it has much to do with coaching style
