It’s already been some time and people got their decks, so I wanted to ask you all which one should I get. From what I saw on YouTube, I’m not a fan of etchy screen diffusing the lights and making the blacks more gray if there is even a little light on the screen, I feel like glossy screen looks better. But - I don’t think it’s that noticable while playing, I think YouTube videos might not be a good indicator of that, (It looks different in person, idk?) and most important - I’m gonna use my deck a lot in trains, I spend around 1,5h everyday in them and I’m unsure if train windows might be bad for it. So, what do you all think?
The YouTube videos mostly over exaggerated the glare/haze depending on the screen. Some did it to create controversy and draw eyeballs for ad views, some did it to simply show the difference more starkly, but whichever the case, it’s not representative of real world usage.
I will say, reflections on an OLED panel are more visible than what you’d see with an LCD, simply because the true black the OLED is capable of creates a near perfect mirror, whereas it’s naturally more diffused on the dark greys of an LCD. In my opinion, the etched glass gives a superior viewing experience in most lighting situations, unless you’re in a dark or dimly lit room. Then the difference is basically minimal. The so called haze you get from the etched glass is only visible when directly lit or at an indirect angle you wouldn’t be playing at using it as a handheld. You might have areas in your home with more direct lighting where you could see it, or if using it propped up with an external controller, the angle of the screen might show it more. Otherwise, it’s a non-issue.
