So I’ve been playing league for 10 years now. I’m finishing a degree and I’d like to look for an opportunity in the professional sector. Competitive has been a passion for me for years and I’ve learnt a lot, have never been in a professional team though.
Which are the best ways to take the first steps and get in touch with the competitive world, not as player but as part of a team’s coaching staff?
Thanks in advance!
Wow. Thanks for taking your time to write this. This is not the first time I hear about how fucking stressful can it get to be close to the highest levels of competition. I know coaches I really admire here in Spain that quit given the exhausting and demanding aspect the job requires.
Also, I feel that this factor has increased over the last couple of years since the joining of big franchises and the injection of money, which bring about higher and higher expectations on staff and players and a rougher, more competitive enviroment. Seems like coaches of the biggest football teams where there’s no period of confidence at all: you win or you’re out. I guess is a way trying to find the path to become a better region and compete with Asia at international events. Not saying it is the most efficient one, though.
Loved your last paragraph. Tbh, I’m a little (in fact, more than a little) lost and confused about my future now that I’m in my last year of university and saw this as a possibility, but reading some people like you makes me wonder if I should keep it as a hobby and as you said, keep learning and improving and eventually try something in an amateur or minor league (I don’t really know how to get there, guess by networking) as I enjoy the experience while I have my job and my life. You would be surprised of how much effort and time I’ve already put into improving at League for years, losing many, many other things that I might regret of letting pass when I grow up, to be here. It’s hard to explain. Guess I was trying to be conveced by myself that all this time invested can’t just end with self frustration and… that’s it.
Two weeks ago I got an interview in the best hotel of my city and I got accepted. I will start on February on the events organization department. Guess I will focus on doing my best there and keep this dream at a more realistic perspective.
Once again, thank you for your time. If you care about doing better for others in this world, may I let you know you helped me a lot with this thing that’s been struggling in my mind for a time now.
