The worst part about the rebrand was that it rendered a classic brand/logo/scheme obsolete. Ninety years of history was turned into expansion-level designs that don’t elicit nostalgia or generational love, like the Eagles Kelly Greens or Giants 80s retro looks. Hate the Eagles, but their look on Sunday against the Bills was perfect.
While I’m aware a Redskins reboot is the longest of shots, my hope for the future is that our catalog of classic uniforms, with some variation of the old logo and helmet stripes, get incorporated into Josh Harris version of Washington football. Part of paying 6 billion for this team has to be a nod that they are sitting on 90-year-old classic branding that will generate fan nostalgia and enthusiasm.
My 7 year old son said “dad did the eagles get new uniforms?” I explained throwbacks to him and he asked “what about the Commanders throwbacks?”
Super sad revelation for me. Lot of good feelings about the old skins uniforms. Never gonna see them again.
