Guess now is as good of a time as ever to talk about this.
I am absolutely fine with playing Zeke, strawther, Collin, Pickett, Watson,and the rest of the “bad bench” squad as much as possible this year, and here’s why. They have a ton of potential. That potential will only be realized if they’re able to get playing time and make mistakes. Of course, playing Reggie, CB, DJ, and Holiday will give us a good bench, but it seriously stifles our young guys development. We aren’t focused on the first 82 games anymore, we’re worried about the last 16, and not only this year. At any time Malone can flip the switch and get a good bench squad in, but most those guys have reached their limits. The young guys have a higher ceiling, and limiting them so we can win a couple more regular season games is a bad move
NO! ROOKIES SHOULD BE FABULOUSLY COMPETENT NBA PLAYERS 10 GAMES INTO THEIR CAREER! OTHERWISE THEY MUST NEVER, EVER GET MINUTES AGAIN!!!
They don’t have “a ton of potential”, or even “a higher ceiling” though. Zeke is what he is at this point in his career, an extremely limited player who hasn’t done anything to show he’s an NBA rotation level player in 3 years. Collin and Pickett are mid to low end backup PGs at their best outcomes. Strawther is a 3 point specialist. Watson I guess is the one with more potential but his potential is also mostly just him being really athletic and big and long and he cares a lot about basketball, so really just entirely theoretical potential rather than him actually having shown much on the court.
Also it’s just funny how Zeke has potential but CB doesn’t and is instead grouped up with the old useless fucks who there’s no point in playing lol
