Hi!

I successfully extended my home network to another floor by wiring lan cable down and putting an acces point there with an extra built in lan port to connect one device per LAN.

I have a netgear nighthawk x4s. On the thing I have a usb drive plugged in. its configured to be accessed through \\mydrive\myfolder

[USB drive]—(usb)–[nighthawk router]----(lan)----[mikrotic cAP ax]—(lan)—[my PC]

Usually on the windows pc (before having that AP in that chain) I did set it up as network path and could access it. On my android phone I can access it through the cx file explorer app.

On the windows pc i cant find it as media server, and i cant connect it as network drive. Not sure whats going on.

btw per google i also found the windows feature setting for smb 1.0 cifs file i disabled all but the client. but it didnt help.

Im thankful for any info!

here the configs:

mirkotik cAP ax config

netgear router readyshare config

ah I already tried that when i got it and i messed with it but it was horrible to configure as i had no lan cable in the beginning, and every failure meant i had to reset the router since i didnt have connection to it anymore xD

    so i disabled dhcp server
i changed adress aquisition to static and entered the router network ip address into the gateway wich let me connect
and then i entered it also into the dns server field wich gave me access to web
then i changed subnet mask and i lost access. im resetting the AP

    btw usually:
my telecom 5G router/WAN is 192.168.8.1, its set to bridge mode connected to the nighthawk router and all my devices usually are on 192.168.1.x
    the nighthawk is 192.168.1.1
    the AP is 192.168.1.40
im not sure how to configure the subnet as you say. i only know about those preset mask settings
i now reset the AP, this time i didnt enter an ip adress and the router configured itself into bridge mode. wich is great for the lan but it cant do wifi in that mode…
    not sure how to proceed.
