Given the news on Lamelo’s injury, it’s an exciting time to remind everyone that we own the more favorable of the Minny and Charlotte 2nds, both unprotected. Charlotte currently has the 7th best odds at #1 and it’s still early, they could easily have one of the top worst records by the time Lamelo is back. Right now, we are looking at having the following picks in the ‘24 draft:

  • Our own (projected 1-6 I would guess)
  • Warriors top 4 protected 1st (projected between 10 and 20 probably)
  • Hornets 2nd (31 at best, 35 at worst probably. Essentially a late 1st)
  • Hawks 2nd (between 40-45 probably)

My friend, you are not seeing things clearly. There is no scenario in which a team can have too many picks. There’s no such thing as “dumping” first round picks because you don’t have enough roster spots. First round picks have value to every team in the league, there is no such thing as just giving them up for free.

Also, we can easily draft all 25 players if we really felt like it. It’s not like they all come in one season. You just need to clear up a couple roster spots each off season. But that would be a little too much turnover for too long to be the best route to success, so it’s unlikely to happen.

I bet we use a good 15 of those picks if I had to take a shot in the dark at it.
