“Frustrated by a slow recovery process, and feeling like his progress started to “plateau,” Cavs injured reserve guard Ty Jerome is trying a different treatment plan in hopes of accelerating his return to the court. Jerome, sidelined for more than a month because of a severe right ankle sprain that has kept him from doing any substantial basketball-related activities, had a cast put on last week to immobilize his right ankle. A source said Jerome will need to be in the cast for about a week – a new approach to finally get him back to full strength. If it works, he can then start individual workouts….”

While Jerome was originally expected to be veteran Ricky Rubio’s understudy for one year, Rubio paused his career and stepped away from the team to focus on his mental health, which led to Jerome becoming the backup point guard coming out of training camp. He played five minutes in the team’s season-opening win against Brooklyn on Oct. 25 before suffering the painful injury two nights later in the home opener.”

TLDR: progress on his injury recovery has stalled and he has not returned to basketball activities or practice. They changed his treatment plan to hopefully let him fully heal. Optimistic timeline is weeks- if all goes well this week he could possibly progress to workouts next week (probably not team workouts or practices but individual work most likely).

Sounds a little rough that he’ll need to have his ankle immobilized, but also I wonder why this wasn’t done in the first place if it has always been considered a “severe” ankle sprain.

Thoughts?
