I think him playing has the potential to do 2 things:

  1. Inspire confidence in the team and give people hope for next season
  2. Show if he can still play at all after this injury, or if he’s completely washed and his mobility is forever shot.

First and foremost, I’m not his doctor. I don’t know how his rehab his going. Modern medicine is very good, particularly for rich famous pro athletes. If medical professionals are clearing him to return, then more than likely it’s safe for him to return.

I understand there are risks, but I feel like the potential rewards could outweigh the risks. I think he clearly knows that if he comes back, the ball has to come out fast because this oline is awful. BUT, we do get some reinforcements back off IR, and Becton will probably play again at some point hopefully. Idk about Brown, but I have confidence in Rodgers to know that he can’t sit in the pocket for long.

If he does reinjure himself, I’m really not that concerned. If he comes back in 5 months from an achilles, I’m not at all worried about him rehabbing some other injury over an entire offseason unless it’s something super serious. However, if it is something super serious, at least we know at that point that we’re probably better off drafting a QB, which we may be in position to do with a top 5 pick because we’re probably gonna lose every game before if/when he comes back.

I just feel like if he can come back and show that he can at least move a little, that would do wonders for the team and fans.

And from a medical perspective, the reinjury rate for a fully repaired achilles tendon, especially one repaired using a medical bridge, is very low. So again, if he’s cleared, he’s cleared. No medical professional is gonna let him back onto the field and risk their reputation without full confidence in that achilles.

I’m not saying I don’t want him to play but I don’t like your reasons. #2 especially because even if he turns out to be not mobile asking him to be mobile coming prematurely back from injury is not a fair assessment of how he would be if he let it fully heal into next year.

Also, I fully expect we will throw as many resources as we can into OL next year given the travesty it has been this year. I also think the confidence/inspiration will have little to no effect into next season which is so far away. How we feel about the team then will be based on so many different things at that point.

The only decent reasons for wanting to see him play is people are eager to given how long we waited to see it and also if they win out, there’s a remote possibility of sneaking into the playoffs. The latter is likely to not be a factor on Dec 24th when he’s targeting his return though as any single loss from now own almost guarantees playoff elimination.
