There is not a QB in the league playing as well as he was. He finally had an Oline and some consistency at play calling and offensive scheme. Maybe Hall plays decent but we can’t expect him to play at the level that Kirk was. I think that puts us back to a mid-round pick and we’ll need more time to groom an heir at QB. Maybe Kirk will take a team friendly deal considering how well things were going and the injury. Doubt he’d want to start over somewhere new…unless Shanahan goes after him.
Unfortunately for Kirk, he is definitely NOT getting the contract he was hoping to get. that’s what also sucks so bad about this for him.
It’s an Achilles. He’s going to be 37 next year.
Kirk is going to have to accept a 1-year prove-it deal, 2 years at the most that is basically a 1-year deal that is easy to get out of. Minimal guarantees, with a lot of incentives. I think we would sign him to something like this and cross our fingers, seeing it would not be a big cap commitment.
It’s not even sure that he is ready for next season either. And the 49ers won’t want to take a risk on him now, because they’ve already had so many QB injury issues, and Purdy is still a good QB so I don’t think that’s an option anyways.
