I think the main qualm I have with this is that his “bet on inexperience” isn’t a bet at all.
Going all-in win-now is a bet because you’re spending extra cash and making financial decisions you wouldn’t normally to try and get an instant return. That’s what we tried the last few years with Rodgers and we lost the bet.
Now we’re short on funds and have taken ourselves out of the betting market. At this point we’re not betting on inexperience, we’re investing in inexperience. The goal was never to win a SB this year whether Gute/Lafleur admit it or not.
I think the Love/Dillon/Deguara draft was a bad move by Gute with how close to a Super Bowl we were, but what’s done is done. The best decision at this point in time for this team is to invest in young players, work through the inexperience and sloppiness while the expectations are low, and use that to build up your investment that hopefully pays out dividends in a couple of years. Making bets is flashier and has a chance to get quicker results, but making investments typically works out better in the long run.
I do have hesitations on Gute’s draft skills overall, but in general the fact we’re leaning into young players is a good decision imo
