This defense is completely changing my perception of the season. Last year they were top 10 and had their moments of really ferocious defense. This season, it seems like they’ve taken those “wow” moments from last year and are just playing like that every single possession.
It’s honestly hard to even believe what we’re seeing. Gobert is a completely different player than who we saw last season. Jaden and Ant are maybe the most formidable wing-defending duo in the NBA. KAT’s playing not even mediocre defense anymore but just actually solid defense. Naz, Anderson, and NAW are all playing with as much ferocity on defense as any of the starters.
I think we’re all traumatized by the lack of consistency over the last few seasons, and that is still a concern. But if they play defense like this all season, I’m not sure there is another team in the NBA that will have an argument for best defense. They’ve got the size, they’ve got the speed, and they’ve got a stable of elite defenders outside of just Rudy, who is now back to clear DPOY frontrunner levels of play.
