It was always just a strategy of throwing a lot of shit at the wall and hoping some of it sticks. I doubt anyone at Sony ever truly thought that even half of those 12 games would be a success. If of those 12 games 2 or 3 are big enough to bring in hundreds of millions a year Sony would probably consider it a success.
