I have a steam deck that works great…. Except all the buttons besides power.

I did the RMA thing and they were nice, but be it price or availability, they weren’t replacing the PCBs behind the buttons.

I didn’t see how much hardware the two versions share. If it’s a lot, simply having more decks made would probably make the “for parts” market softer. Besides that I have no clue!

Also, I saw they are phasing out the smallest and largest ssd sizes, and wonder if we would expect that to cause an influx of 256gb drives people are pulling out. Once again no clue!

Thoughts?

from what ive seen in reviews, the joysticks and bumpers are difently different, bumpers and triggers just a bit different, so could find a small workaround for that, but the joysticks pcb is different and so will need to be re-done. also the main board has changed too, as now the ssd sits flipped 90 degrees to the right. the influx of 256gb could happen, but i dont see too many people opting for those when you could get a 512 for not that much more or do what a lot of people do and go for a 1tb or 2tb option. me personally i cant stand sd cards so i went with a 2tb ssd.

You are the bearer of bad news but i forgive you. thanks! At the very least, the price of the OG just dropped, and the trend may continue.

Tbh I’m not mad at my “steamdeck/homedeck” system, but I still really want to crack that puppy open for the glory. Also generally, the repairability, and the collab w ifixit, really endeared me to the thing early, so I was bummed about the limits of that.
