David Tepper has owned the Panthers since 2018 when he purchased them for $2.275 billion dollars. He is 66 years old and his current net worth is $20.6 billion.
It is no secret we have trended in a downward spiral since then, and it’s his team so he ultimately should take most of the blame.
He hired Matt Rhule, a total failure, and now Frank Reich, a total failure. I say that with certainty because he has not at any point shown a mere flash at adjusting the game plan for the team he coaches. He finessed his way into this job and should be relieved of his duties immediately. Another year for him would spell death for Bryce Young’s NFL career as he’s shown flashes of being a good nfl quarterback despite the handicaps he is dealt.
I won’t blame the Thomas Brown as he’s calling plays yes but he’s still calling Frank Reich’s plays. I know he probably feels handicapped himself as Frank has a playbook you’d see in the darn 90’s that will never succeed today. Prime Tom Brady couldn’t make this offense work.
Ejiro Ejero has done a fine job with what he’s been dealt, let me list who he doesn’t have playing for him right now.
Brian Burns Jaycee Horn Jeremy Chinn Shaq Thompson Justin Houston
Panthers total defense ranks at 8 Pass defense at 5 Rush defense at 28 Scoring defense 32 Red zone defense 32 3rd down defense 7
And that’s with the players missing above and the offense giving them awful field position a lot of the time. I think Evero has done a great job in this situation and I hope badly he stays with us moving forward (he probably will because he’s a panthers coach)
Let me get back to the point…
Tepper is a 66 year old 20billion dollar man, his team sucks and all he is is a fan of the team he wins that he’s way too involved in. If I was an owner I would want to be more like Marc (mark?) Cuban of the Dallas Maveriks, a super fan who focuses on the fans and trusts the GM and coach to operate the team.
There are only 32 nfl teams, when they are up for sale there is no shortage of interest. Unless World War 3 breaks out and players get drafted and nobody cares for the NFL anymore teams are not going to sell for anything less than the last team did, which was Washington this year for $6.05 billion, almost 3x what Tepper bought Carolina for 5 years ago. He could easily sell the team for more than that (doesn’t matter if we’re good or not, like I said supply and demand there’s only 32 teams and there’s 735 billionaires in the United States.)
If Tepper doesn’t sell the team he truly doesn’t care about the fans an ounce. He’s just a fan that meddles where he shouldn’t right now and has the power to do so. If he has any shred of integrity or sympathy for us he’ll know we don’t want him around and sell the team.
What I would want in a new owner is someone who is passionate about Carolina, wants to improve the fan experience, and trusts his team to hire the right GM and head coach and let them cook. A GM and coach that are aggressive. We need them to re sign burns immediately as we saw how missed he was tonight, and scheme an offense for our players (look how much the OL has regressed because the thru new blocking scheme, it’s insane we’ve stuck with it this long.) they need to understand that next year will not be a contention year but that doesn’t mean we can’t compete and improve our roster. Be aggressive in free agency, draft better than we have these past few years, be aggressive but competent. Truly build around what you have in Bryce young without putting all your eggs in one basket.
Analysis/rant over.
It just doesn’t make sense while also owning charlotte fc and how much he’s invested
